MY STORY
Kirk's songwriting weaves connections between his rural upbringing, human interactions and the simplicity of life. Inspired in earlier years by the lyrics of John Prine and the style of Townes Van Zandt his approach to music is honest and heartfelt.
Kirk has played guitar for the past 30 years. He started learning on his dad's 57 Gretsch attempting to play Rock and Roll. In the mid 90's Kirk began playing bluegrass and soon started writing songs.
In December of 2000 Kirk made the move to Seattle, Washington. There he started playing mandolin with various musicians and continued to develop his own songs and hone his skills through open mics. In 2007 Kirk began playing guitar and singing with the local bluegrass band Dysfunction Junction.
In 2006 Kirk began a 7-year stint of monthly gigs at the Park Pub: mostly solo with an occasional guest sitting in. His first album "Rush Lake" was met with positive reviews including making KBCS’s Iaan Hughes’ “top 10 albums of 2015” and performing a live in studio at KBCS.
Currently Kirk is living in Tacoma, Washington with his wife and two daughters. He continues to sing and play guitar with Dysfunction Junction, and you might find him playing mandolin at a Farmer’s Market with the Grit City Pickers.
He is working on a new album hopeful to release in 2023.
